Library Board Trustee Position

The Community Walking Club meets at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library at 8:30 a.m. every Thursday for a one or two mile walk around town, followed by coffee and snacks.  Everyone is invited to walk with the group (check with your health care professional to be sure you can walk 20 to 40 minutes on pavement).  Fitness with friends is fun!  No one walks alone; there are groups of slow, medium and speedy walkers.  The Community Walking Club meets every Thursday the Library is open, all year around.  It’s springtime in northern Michigan and that might mean rain (or snow) – we walk in any kind of weather except thunderstorms and ice storms.  So bring umbrellas and raincoats, if necessary!  For more information, call 989-724-6796.

Special Event:  Fresh Fruit Frenzy following the June 8 walk.  (That means that we celebrate the end of the walk with lots of fruit!)

Love to knit?  Join Helen and other like-minded knitters to finish old projects, create new projects, or learn new stitches.  Helen will help new knitters knit a dishcloth.  Those who like to crochet are welcome, too!  Knitting Klub meets at the Harrisville branch on the third Tuesday at 1:15 p.m.; Knitting Klub at the Caledonia branch meets every Friday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Calling all Crafters!  Join the Library’s Free Range Craft for Adults which meets the first and third Thursdays of the month from 10 a.m. – noon at the Harrisville branch.  -- Start new crafts, finish old projects, bring ideas and questions for others in the group.  This is an opportunity for area crafters to meet and create projects during a designated time frame.  For more information, call Jan at 989-724-6796.

Adults are welcome to join us for the monthly “Get Crafty” session on the first Monday of the month at the Harrisville branch (second Monday during holiday weeks).  A craft or art project is offered for those who enjoy a new art experience.  We are honored to have local artists and crafters share their talents with us, and help us keep the costs down to a small materials & refreshment fee.  Must register for all events:  call 989-724-6796.

Alpena artist Ellen brings her substantial collection of materials to make a fabulous collage to take home, using stencils for effect.  $5/person for supplies and refreshments.  This event is supported by Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, administered by Northeast Michigan Center for Fine Art, Inc.

Monday, August 14, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – Oil painting with Jolene Grusecki.
Tawas artist Jolene will guide us through painting a fabulous oil painting.  $10/person for supplies and refreshments.  This event is supported by Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, administered by Northeast Michigan Center for Fine Art, Inc.

Monday, August 21, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Zendoodle with Watercolor by Marilyn Bachelor.
Hubbard Lake artist Marilyn will show us Zendoodle techniques, using pens and watercolor.  $5/person for supplies and refreshments.  This event is supported by Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, administered by Northeast Michigan Center for Fine Art, Inc.

Adults are invited to attend Color Craze on the first Friday of the month at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library from noon – 1:30 p.m.  Bring a bag lunch (optional); dessert and beverages provided.  Coloring pages from books designed especially for adults as well as colored pencils and markers will be provided.  This FREE class meets the first Friday of every month; adults only, please.  For more information call 989-724-6796.
